Default purpose of "commit" file in the msolap data directory - 06-03-2004 , 02:52 AM

Hello,
when edditing cube properties, sometimes I get error msg "Unable to save". After that the Analysis Services stops and enter a state "Starting".
In the database main direcory I found the file "commit". I cannot delete this file. My molap database consumes about 10 gb, so starting of the service takes about 1 hour.

Sometimes the fastest way is to set msolap service startup to manual, restart machine, and delete the file, and start msolap service.

So, what is the purpose of the commit file? Is there a simplest way to start msolap service? Or is there a way to start the service without the database ?
