Default PTS and Client Users - 02-13-2006 , 02:37 PM

I am new to AS2000 cube deployment over the web using only Microsoft products
(last worked with this in 2000, in its infancy.)

I am concerned that as SP's were applied to the server, clients were not
updated with the latest versions of PTSLite. The network folks have no idea
what I am talking about and my predecessor refuses to take any calls.

None of the users have been denied access, but I am concerned that they are
not experiencing the best performance possible.

SQL and AS are installed on the same 2000 SP4 server. We have a separate
intranet server from which users access the cubes.

How important are PTSLite updates and what is the general consensus as to
approach?

I think this topic was covered last week, but I will give my thoughts
again.

In my experience, while the client machines will still be able to
connect to the newer SP servers, they will eventually run into
problems. This could range from just not getting good performance, to
getting incorrect data.

In the client company I used to work for (note USED TO) the first thing
our support group would ask people when they called in was if the SP's
of the client and server were the same. If it wasn't, then that was
the first thing we would get updated to troubleshoot the problem.

So, in my opinion, I would always keep my client machines at the same
SP level as my server. You just alleviate a lot of headaches and I
think will keep you and your users happier.
