Project REAL: Enterprise Class Hardware Tuning for Analysis Services

Here is a whitepaper I authored - after months of testing AS processing
and querying.

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo..._HW_Tuning.doc

My hope is to demonstrate the importance of hardware tuning for
Analysis Services performance.
This paper can also help in hardware sizing to some degree.

Feedback welcome!

excellent paper!
A clear demonstration of the importance of the hardware.

there is 1 missing test in the test list:
all disks shared for everything!

you always spread the content among multiple controllers, but what's appends
when everything is shared?

our customers are not ready to pay for this type of config, so we have no
choice and we share the disks for everything (SQL + SSAS + tempdb)
I know its not recommended etc... but this config can be used to compare the
results and see the final improvement between shared / dedicated config.
