Default Processing Log setting won't stick - 02-12-2004 , 10:47 AM

Hi,

As a rule, I enable the Processing Log on my test and development
servers; for one of them (actually, on my laptop, where I'm running
Developer Edition under Windows XP) I can set the Processing Log and
specify a filename, and logging to that file successfully takes
place; but this setting gets lost when the MSSQLServerOLAPService is
stopped and restarted, i.e. the checkbox is cleared, and the filename
is cleared (so I have to re-enter it each time). It's bugging the
hell out of me! :-) It only happens on this one machine.

Anyone know why this is happening (and, more importantly, what I can
do to stop it from happening?)

Cheers,

It is possible that someone is mucking around with the Analysis Services
repository? That setting is stored in one of the XML strings in the AS
repository. Maybe you migrated it to SQL Server and someone is manually
stopping and starting the service? That would rollback any changes made in
your session. Or if multiple administrators are on the system looking at
server properties and you update the value; then the other person updates a
server property (which might then override your settings)?

Yes, I migrated the repository to SQL Server; and no-one else is
using that repository (I've checked!) The only person manually
stopping and starting the services is me, and I always shut down
MSSQLServerOLAPService before shutting down MSSQLSERVER, and always
start up MSSQLSERVER before MSSQLServerOLAPService, so I don't see
how (or why) this should be occurring.

However, I looked at the repository; there are two tables,
OlapObjects and Server. Plenty of rows in OlapObjects, but the Server
table has no rows in it at all; I guess it probably should. So, I ask
myself a) why doesn't it have any rows (since if server-specific
settings are stored in there, just how is the Analysis Server
working, which it manifestly is) and b) how can I correct this
situation. I don't know the answer to either! :-)

Only one person (me) using this Analysis Server, and the SQL Server
which contains the Repository.
