Default Problem with Visual Total in regular dimension - 07-12-2006 , 11:55 AM

I have set Visual Totals in the Stores dimension for a new role "USA North"
and this failed to have an effect: the members of "USA North" would still see
worldwide totals.
I found out by looking at the "xxxx.cube" file that this role was missing
the <VisualTotals> tag. I proceeded to insert this tag manually in the
"xxxx.cube" file and problem was solved.
(it was present in the Stores.dim file, however, so I didn't need to edit
that one)

My question is: Should I have done something more than
1) check the "Enable Visual Totals" box in the dimension data advanced tab
of the role, and
2) Deploy the cube ?

I don't think I was expected to go and edit the XML in the .cube file, I
would have thought that Visual Studio would have taken care of this.

Hello Pat,

Thank you for your post!

I understand that "Visual Totals" option does not take effect and you have
to manually add the <VisualTotals> tag to .cube file in project.

To know the issue better, I'd like to get the following informaiton for
further research:

1. The sample BI project including the .cube and .xml you have changed.

2. Export the following registy key and compress it as a ZIP file

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2

You could send them to me at petery (AT) microsoft (DOT) com. I look forward to your
reply.
