Default Problem with Attribute Relationships - 04-19-2006 , 09:57 AM

Hi

I have got a time Dimension with the following Attributes:
Year
Quarter
Month
Week
Day
Hour

I have set up the Attribute Relationships so that the Dimension Key relates
only to the Hour and then the Day relates to the Hour, the Week to the Day
etc....

The problem comes in when I want to create my Hierachies. The two main
Hiearchies are:

<B>Monthly</B>
Year
Quater
Month
Day
Hour

<B>Weekly</B>
Year
Week
Day
Hour

If you take January 2005 as an example, the 30 and 31st Jan were in Week 6,
where the other 5 days of this week were in February. When I browse the cube
for this data, Those two days fall under Febrary.

Is this a limitation of setting up the relationships correctly and that I
will need to revert back to the default relationships of everything being
related to the key value?

Regards
Michael

Hi Michael,

What are the attribute relationships you have set up for Day exactly - just
Week? And you then have a relationship between Week and Month? It sounds like
you need to have two relationships set up on Day, one to Week and one to
Month, and then both Week and Month should only have relationships with Year
(assuming a week can't be in more than one year). Since there is no
one-to-many relationship between Month and Week, you shouldn't model it that
way, and I think once you've modelled it correctly your hierarchies will work
the way you expect.

HTH,

Chris

Thanks Chris. I went through and setup the relationships correctly and all
works fine now. It is amazing how much functionality there is in AS2005 that
you need to dig into to get the full benefit. We are working on a 2nd
Iteration of our WH on 2005 as the first one was designed in a 2000 thought
process and it just doesn't work very well.
