Default Preventing Excel from grabbing cpu time? - 09-16-2003 , 03:56 AM

Hi all,
right now, pushing all the work to the Analysis Server by
using the "execution location=3" parameter is not an
option, because there is another database running on this
server.

Excel itself is running on an ASP server and is accessed
by Citrix. Whenever someone issues a query Excel grabs
100% CPU-time and a lot of RAM. Just as stated before

Noone would care about this behaviour if Excel were the
only program running on th machine, but it is not. Is
there a way to limit cpu useage (prevent exclusive usage)
and / or the max amount of RAM without shifting the
workload or buying a new server. There will be a new
server as soon as possible to provide an exclusive
workspace for AS. Right now I am looking for a solution
to cover the current situation.

TIA Lutz

Default Has anyone tried resetting excel priority - 09-16-2003 , 06:52 AM

I just found this, but haven't tried it out yet. Maybe
setting the priority to "low" at startup is a solution.

start "" /low "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\excel.exe"

Any comments?

TIA Lutz
