Default Is it possible to export a cube to a local PC? - 11-25-2004 , 06:06 AM

Hi,

I have the cube on Analysis Services (on our server) and thus can only browse/analyze/use the cube while connected to the LAN (and thus the server).

Is there any option in either Analysis Service or via some tool to export the whole cube as a single file to a local machine so that the user can do the analysis when off-line e.g when not connected to the LAN or when at home?

Will appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks.

Yep...but there can be some trouble regarding your calculated members in the
cube - if you have those...

You can use MS Excel "offline cubes".
But you'll not be able to work with calculated members.See Ms Excel help for
details....

In order to create an offline cube, you can use Excel and step through the
Wizard.

If you're running Analysis Services on your local PC, you can create an
archive of your cube, and then restore that on your local PC.
Right click the database you want, and choose "Archive".
You can't process it, unless you have access to the database that the cube
is built on, but you can still look at it and retrieve data from it.
Unfortunately, if your cube is too big or too demanding, you might not be
able to work with it.
