Default Poor performance on some PCs - 09-01-2003 , 03:08 PM

I have an application written in Visual Basic using ADOMD to connect
to AS cubes. It performs ok on 6 of 10 client PCs while 4 others
exhibit extremely poor performance (ie about 100 times slower that the
fast ones). All client PCs are on the same network, similar specs
with same latest PTS service packs, W2K OS etc. Userid doesn't make
any difference either on these PCs. Any ideas what could be the
problem?

Thanks
Willy

Hi Willy,

This sounds strange, and you seem to have already checked out the obvious
causes of the problem; it might be worth reinstalling SP3 on one of the
poorly performing PCs just to double-check. One other thing to check is the
locales on each of the machines and the server - there have been some
problems connected with locales being different on the client and server,
which force more work to be done on the client.

Can you tell us what exactly happens when you run a query on one of the
poorly performing PCs, and what happens on one of the PCs which perform
well? What happens on the server at the same time? I'm thinking in terms of
CPU and memory usage.

Regards,

Chris

Hello,
we had a similar problem and solved
it by replacing the VBA6.dll in clients system folder
with a newer one
than the one which is in visual studio.

Thank you for the suggestions. Our network admin resolved the problem
by adjusting the poorly performing PCs' network set up.
