Default Pivottable features contra Analysis features - urgent... - 09-14-2003 , 07:59 AM

I love this technology - however one of the annoying things is the fact that
not all features in Analysis is supported by the pivottable client.

My latest problem is the Dimension Security feature on Analysis - can anyone
confirm that this isn't possible with the pivottable client ?

If this is true I have to get this information to a client as soon as
possible so they are aware of that when choosing what to do.

Have you tested your security using the test feature that's built into
Analysis Mgr UI?

If your security is defined correctly, I don't think a client is able to
circumvent.

Dimension security is enforced by the Analysis Services and therefore
applies to all client tools.
Please be more specific about problem you see - I've seen a lot of
successful implmentations of Excel/OWC with dimension security.

Sorry - should have been a little more specific - made
perhaps assumptions to fast. I have discussed it with a co-
worker who actually has i running in a "real" client
server environment - when i set it up on my laptop it
doesn't have any affect when i look at the data from the
pivottable with a user that has limited rights.

When I use the test tool on AS i works.

Could my problems be related to where the repository is
kept ? SQL Server og Access - was my co-workers suggestion.

Can't I perform this type of action on a machine which is
both server and client ?

Shall I provide screen dumps of My settings related to the
foodmart DB ?

Check whether that user is machine Administrator or member of the local OLAP
Administrators NT group.
This is usually a problem in such cases

Got it...

Think I mis-used it....

I had created a new role related to only one cube and tried to deny access
to some of the dimension values - when looking in the test ui on as it said
an error....still not quite sure why - however when I take a copy of the
database role that has been defined to cover every cube in Foodmart and
alters this to the new user it works.

So I must have done something wrong.

Did I make an error when trying to disallow access to dimension values in
one cube and not in others .. ?
