Default Performance - 08-16-2005 , 11:23 AM

Hello group.

In a new client computer I have installed PivotTable Services and in an old
client computer I have analysis server. The server is a 3GB RAM with 4 Xeon
2.40GHz. The new computer is 512Mb RAM Pentium IV 2.8 GHz and the old
computer is 256Mb RAM Pentium IV 1.8 GHz.

The software installed in both computer are the same, but PTS and A2K. In
the new computer (with PTS) the performance reading the cubes from the
server is very bad the first time the data is retrieved, the next queries
the response is almost immediately. However, in the old computer (with A2K)
retrieving data is always immediately.

Is there any difference in caching data if you use A2K or PTS on the client
side? How could you explain this difference between the two computers?

Regards,

Javi

Hi,

first point:
initial access to a cube is always slower due to the "cold cache". AS has
not loaded anything in its memory, so there is nothing in its cache, next
queries will generally play with the cache so the performance is greatly
improved.

does your 2 computers are on the same network?
does your computers use the same version of the drivers? (SP4 if possible)
what is your connectionstring?
