Default Partition merge doesn't drop temporary partition - 01-30-2007 , 06:21 AM

I am using SQL Server/Analysis Services 2000 (with SP4) and DSO API from
VB.NET to process cubes/partitions in Analysis services.

We create a temporary partition, link it to a new fact table, process it and
finally merge it with the existing processed partition. Merge is done using
DSO.

Occasionally we see that even after successful merge, the temporary
partition is not getting dropped especially when the system is heavy.

This results in a large number of temporary partitions getting accumulated
in olap db which finally throws "Out of string space" and then "Out of
memory" exception.

Any help?

Do merge partition, you can choose the MiniTool Partition Wizard software.
Step one: Select partition you like to expand from the partition list. This partition will be expanded to include all content from the adjacent partition which will be selected in the second step.

Step two: Select an adjacent partition that will be merged to the previous partition. All data of this partition will be merged to the expanding partition that selected in the first step.

Step three: Choose a name for the new folder.

The drive E will be expanded to 139.54 GB. And the data of drive F will be stored to the e:\merged_partition_content.
