Default Parllel partitions processing - Performance degradation. - 05-09-2005 , 09:31 PM

Hi,

We are doing a POC with 64 bit Analysis Services. We built a cube with 18
dims. Most of them are set to aggregate 'Top Level' only.

The server settings are as follows:

Read-a-head buffer- 512 MB;
Process Buffer - 1GB;
Maximum number of threads - 16

When we built 1 partiton:
It took 10 minutes to complete. DB2 - 7 mins; Aggs - 3 mins.

When we built 4 parttions in parllel using the parllel partition utility,
each partition took about 45 minutes to complete.
DB2 time: 25 nis; Aggs -20 minutes.

Can you please advice any server settings that we need to change for the
parllel partitions to work effeciently.

I am not sure, how to determine the optimum number of 'max number of
threads' setting?

Thanks in advance,
Sam.

I replied to your later thread.
How much ram do you have on the machine?
The read ahead is set too high, lower it to about 25mb.

What OLEDB provider are you using for DB2, have you tried quering in
parallel outside of AS, could be something with the provider running in
parallel.
