Default Parent-child dimensions and performance - 10-28-2005 , 12:20 PM

What kind of an effect do parent child dimensions have on performance with
cubes?

I just noticed that PC's have the Changing property set to True. And I know
thatchanging dimensions can do weird things to aggregations.

Thanks in advance.

All changing dimensions (including parent-child) only store rigid
aggregates (calculated at processing time) at the leaf and top (all)
levels. The levels in between all use flex aggregates which must be
calculated at runtime. They can be cached, but I *think* only for a
session.

So the bottom line is that large pc dimensions or lots of them will
usually have a negative impact on performance.
