Default Parent-Child dimension - incorect parent total - 11-23-2006 , 06:58 AM

Hello,

I have a parent child dimension that is linked to the 'real' fact table as a
many-to-many relationship via an intermediate measure group (IMG). The PC
dim only has two attributes (parent and child).

The parents in the dimension have no facts associated with them in the IMG -
only the children have facts against them.

When I do a DESCENDANTS on the parent member using the parent-child
hierarchy, the parent total does NOT add up to the sum of the children. It
seems to be lower as if its missing out some the children from the parent
total despite showing all the children!
I have set the 'memberswithdata' option to hidden and the totals still dont
add up.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Over the course of the day I have solve this riddle.
The problem was all data related. I had duplicate assignments in the IMG
for the same 'parent'.

The child totals thus overlapped each other.
Interestingly, the parent was not the sum of the children rather the sum of
the distinct intermediate facts that were owned by its children.

Sorry for wasting anyones time.
