Default OWC and office 2003 - 08-04-2004 , 11:06 AM

Hi there,

I have a question.

I have an ASP page with an OWC (from Office 2000). Anyone with Office 2000
and the pre-reqs (Excel, OWC, and PTSFULL) can all access the cube over HTTP
fine.

When I get other combinations, XP, Office 2003, etc. some machines have
problems connecting to the cube over the web, eventhough they have the
pre-reqs on their client machines (albeit different versions than what is on
the web server).

Is the OWC downward compatible? ie, if I have the web server setup with an
office 2000 owc, and a client tries to connect to it via the XP or Office
2003 setup I sometimes have clients that cannot connect, and get the This
object does not support this property error.

Any assistance to this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Tom Olthoff.

If you look at the web page that is being generated, the <object> tag for
the OWC with Office 2003 is definitely different that the OWC with Office
2000 (as you would expect). Therefore you need to get that OWC ActiveX
object downloaded on to your client machines, either by dynamic download
(which will load the new ActiveX control) or by upgrading the Office
installation to 2003. So I think the heart of your question doesn't have
anything to do with Analysis Services itself, but more a deployment issue
with the OWC ActiveX control.

Hope that helps.
