Default OWC 10 pivot table performance question - 04-11-2005 , 04:34 AM

Hello,

We are using pivot table (OWC10) to view the cube data from Analysis
services 2000. The pivot table report is opened in Internet Explorer
browser.

On the remote connection over HTTP, the pivot table report is loading
in about 8-10 minutes (over 100kbps connection) where as in the local
server, it is opening with very good response time. So i think, it is
the network travel time which is causing the problem.

Do i need to setup anything to increase the response time. The pivot
table displays around 800 rows of data and about 5 columns and about 3
dimensions on the page level.

Regards,

Ajit.

Hi Ajit,

The experiences of Mark Hill in this regard may interest you - his blog
discusses their speed improvements:

So let’s talk about performance and the improvements that we can
quantify.

Connection to our main cube used to take in order of around 10-20
minutes in some locations even with all the different PTS connection
properties set on the client, with the new provider around 10-20 seconds
is pretty representative now.

In terms of queries themselves, we are seeing on average over 500%
performance increase, however in some cases reports which we could not
run at all or would have taken all day are now taking 5 minutes. All in
all a success story from the user perspective.

Hi Deepak,

The link you gave defines exactly the problem we are facing. XML/A
seems a possible option than relying on PTS.

Thanks a lot.

Ajit

Could not get the link to work - a little bit confused on the conclusion
though - thought OWC was superior to XMLA when it comes to performance ?
