Default OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 9.0, MSQuery, and AS2005 cube fi - 01-23-2006 , 03:55 PM

Hi,

I'm having trouble connecting to a local cube file using MSQuery and OLE DB
Provider Services 9.0.

I am accessing MSQuery via 'Excel 2003', 'Pivot Table Wizard', 'External
Data Source', 'Get Data' function.

I select 'OLAP Cubes' tab and then 'New Data Source'.

I choose Microsoft OLE DB Provider Services 9.0, and 'cube file' .

If I choose a cube file at any location other than c:\ , the list box
associated with
'Select the cube that contains the data you want' is empty. Also a cube
file is generated at c:\.

If the cube file location is c:\ it works fine.

Also if I try to access a cube file generated in AS2000, it works fine at
all locations.

Has anyone else run into this problem, or can anyone reproduce, or is it
just my particular configuration, or possibly the way I am generating the
cube file ?

Thanks,
Lance.

I'm also at a loss of how to connect to my cube.

As Lance did below, but...

- I choose Microsoft OLE DB Provider Services 9.0, and 'Analysis Server'
- Type my OLAP 2005 server name, click Next
- A list of OLAP databases is shown, I select one and click Finish
- I'm returned to the "Create New Data Source" dialog to do Step 4. But Step
4, "Select the Cube that contains the data you want" has an empty dropdown
list.
- Because the list is empty, I cannot click on OK.

What needs to happen to allow this to work?

It looks like the root of this problem was that the Cubes were not in a
processed state, so they do not show up.

Once the Cube I wanted was processed, it showed up in the list and was
selectable.
