Default OLAP Web Navigation - 09-25-2004 , 04:51 PM

What are the best tools to use to navigate an MS OLAP
cube through a browser? I am familiar with Cognos Power
Play web, but I was looking for something with in the
Microsoft tools?

Any ideas.

There is an office web component..

Create a pivot table for the cube in Excel.... The go the File Save As
menu.... you can save it as HTML, including the interactivity...

Really neat...!

there is a lot of 3rd party tools on the market.
Microsoft doesn't provide a web based tool (the office pivot table is an
ActiveX control, not HTML/DHTML based).

PP Web can be used with Analysis Services cubes.
Search in this newsgroup (through google) to find a list of tools.
this site has a list :

Powerplay is a pain to use over Analysis services, and not cheap come to
that.
If you're looking to roll out BI across an organisation then check out the
ProClarity Analytic Server platform.

I work for a BI consultancy in the UK. Every time we get a new client and
they decide to independently compare front-endOLAP tools we just leave them
to it. ProClarity always wins. In the end we became partners with ProClarity
so we could support the installations, do the training etc. But we still
recommend clients evaluate independently, and ProC still wins.

Hope this helps,

Rich

Hi,

I have experience with both Panorama NovaView and ReportPortal.
Panorama NovaView is the highend server/frontend for MS Analysis
Services. Even over the internet it is one of the fastest. We have
customers in the netherlands using Panorama as their frontend for
analysis for the internet with thousands of users with very fast query
times!

ReportPortal is one of the best for low budget solutions full based on
XMLA.

If you have to choice for a server frontend solution for Microsoft
Analyses Services 2000 you should have on your list in any way:
ReportPortal, Panorama Novaview. For a Windows Client you should add
the not so know but very nice: DataWarehouse Explorer.
