Default OLAP Query Log to File - 09-11-2006 , 11:03 AM

Hi,

Has anyone tried getting the OLAP Query Log (2005) to write to a log file
and NOT to a sql table?

I've tried to configure this on 3 servers (SP1 cummulative Hot Fix) but to
no joy.

When i restart the SSAS Server i get the following, rather uninformative
message:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSSQLServerOLAPService
Event Category: (289)
Event ID: 7
Date: 11/09/2006
Time: 15:23:56
User: N/A
Computer: DRBSLASW02
Description:
An error occurred while starting the query log.

The file path i use is in the allow browsing list of folders and i've even
tried creating the file i specified to use, but no joy. Just the same
message every time.

Anyone else having this problem?

Cheers.

The file name you specify for the QueryLog should have extension .trc.
The format of the QueryLog file is exactly the same as trace files. It is
not a text file but a binary and you only use SQL Profiler to open it.

Hope that helps

Thanks Edward - that's a fix

I think it could be worth a mention in the next BOL that the QueryLog\
QueryLogFileName should be a .trc file as you pointed out.

Many thanks for your help.
