By installing - what do you mean...? You need to go into the performance monitoring tool in windows (not AS) - don't know the english term and configure a monitoring session ... where you select which of the monitoring groups + counters you wish to examine and select how to output it. Try using text file at first to better get a look at the numbers. --Michael V. |

Hi Michael By installing I mean exactly that, installing analysis services performance counters, as listed in books on-line and/or the web link in my previous posting. When I go to performance monitor the counters are listed. I've rebooted the machine but to no avail. jay "Michael Vardinghus" <mivar (AT) wmdata (DOT) dk> wrote By installing - what do you mean...? My laptop broke down last night so I can't give you the exact words...but on my operating system it isn't enough that they are listed - you have to put them into a monitoring session where you choose somewhere to place the session - such as binary file, sql server etc. The link you mention doesn't go into this - the link only tells you which counters are available - not how to make a monitoring process... You can then pick which counters you want to monitor - perhaps you don't want them all at once. --Michael V. |

yes I understand what your saying about saving the results in a file, but what I'm saying is that the counters are not there to begin with. I cannot monitor Analysis Services because the counters are not there to select. I can select other counters such as processor, network, memory etc, but not A.S counters. The link I gave explains how to install the counters by amending the registry and running the LODCTR msmdctr.ini command. The link also shows the couters that should be available once the command is run, but this is not working for me. jay "Michael Vardinghus" <mivar (AT) wmdata (DOT) dk> wrote My laptop broke down last night so I can't give you the exact words...but on my operating system it isn't enough that they are listed - you have to put them into a monitoring session where you choose somewhere to place the session - such as binary file, sql server etc. The link you mention doesn't go into this - the link only tells you which counters are available - not how to make a monitoring process...
