Default OLAP 7 to SSAS2005 - 09-08-2006 , 04:14 PM

Is it possible to migrate OLAP 7 straight to SSAS 2005 or do I have to do
it via AS 2000?

Searched the web and read lots of documents but nowhere I could find the
answer to this one. The Migration Wizard from SQL Server Management Studio
implies that migration is possible only from AS 2000. Is that it?

Thanks.

I can't believe no one knows the answer to this. Has anyone migrated SQL
environment from 7 to 2005?

Thanks.

Is this a wrong group to ask this question in? Come on! A simple "I don't
know" would also be very helpful.

Thanks again.

The answer is no... You need to migrate from 2000 to 2005.

I would also strongly recommend reading the section on upgrading Analysis
Services 2000 to 2005 in the Upgrade Technical Reference. It points out
various important differences in the behavior of the two releases.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

This doc has a note:

"Note: For SQL Server 7.0, Upgrade Advisor does not support OLAP Services.
You should upgrade SQL Server 7.0 OLAP Services to SQL Server 2000 Analysis
Services to analyze cubes via Upgrade Advisor."

Thanks,
Akshai
