Default offline OLAP with HTTP connection - 06-09-2005 , 11:03 AM

Hello,

Analysis Services SP4
IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 SP4

AS runs on one server. We have a datapump configured on another server (as
described in the following article
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...l_datapump.asp)
and the clients connect using Excel 2002 or 2003 through HTTPS.

In Excel everything works fine except when trying to swith offline using the
"Offline OLAP" function. At the end of the wizard we get the following error
:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services: Data source provider error

In the IIS log we have the following :

2005-06-09 15:34:00 10.2.1.120 DOMAIN\user 10.2.1.4 443 POST
/OLAP/msolap.asp - 200 Light+DCube
2005-06-09 15:34:05 10.2.1.120 - 10.2.1.4 443 POST /OLAP/msolap.asp - 401
Light+DCube
2005-06-09 15:34:11 10.2.1.120 - 10.2.1.4 443 POST /OLAP/msolap.asp - 401
Light+DCube

The first post is succesfull and occurs when the offline OLAP wizard is
launched. The two following posts are unsuccesfull with an error code 401
(Access Denied) which is logical since the authentication is no longer sent
to the IIS server (note that DOMAIN\user is not in the post). Those two
posts occur when you click "Finish" at the end of the wizard.

Does anybody have any ideas? Is this a bug or is this by design? Could this
be due to our 3-tier architecture? Has anybody succesfully created an
offline cube using an HTTP connection?

Thanks in advance,

François

Hi,

we already faced this problem some years ago. According to MS DEV Support
this behaviour is caused by some missing functionalities ("by design").
Maybe somebody else has any news on this?

cheers,
Matthias

Hello Mathias,

Thanks for your answer. "Missing functionalities" : that's what I thought.

We're quite disappointed. Users who will access the cube via an HTTP
connection are obviously the ones who have the most interest in the offline
OLAP function!

Cheers

Francois
