Default Newbie! - Pointers needed - 07-04-2003 , 03:18 AM

Hi,

I am just starting with having a look at Analysis Services to see whether
our company can utilise it. I have a strong SQL 2K and genral developer
background, but it looks like I'm going to have to RTFM for this OLAP stuff.

So, can anyone give me some recomendations for articles and books that
starts from "This is the kind of situation/data that is suitable" and goes
on to building cubes and optimising the installation e.t.c I guess I'm
asking for a book that does it all!

Any pointers, much appreciated

Hi,
if you are interested in olap in general, my hint is:

1. Spofford, George. "MDX Solutions: With Microsoft
SQL Server Analysis Services". Wiley & Sons. New York,
2001.

2. Kimball, Ralph und Ross, Margy. "The Data
Warehouse Toolkit: The Complete Guide to Dimensional
Modeling". Wiley & Sons. 2nd ed. 2002.

3. Kimball, Ralph, Laura Reeves et.al. "The Data
Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit : Expert Methods for
Designing, Developing, and Deploying Data Warehouses",
John Wiley & Sons,1998

For first steps with AS I recommend:

Jacobson, Reed. "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis
Services Step by Step", Microsoft Press,2000
