Default New Excel plugin - write back (what-if) doesn't works? - 06-09-2004 , 02:32 PM

Hi,

I'm trying the new Excel plugin to access the OLAP cubes.
The write back appear to doesn't works!

"Unable to begin What-if Analysis. Check connections and try refreshing your
report before trying again."

I refresh the report, but nothing changes.

Does the connection string must be configured specially for the write back?

I'm testing on the foodmart 2000 sample, I've activated the write back on
the budget cube.

Thanks for your help.

Jerome.

Ok, I've found...
it's because I'm not at the lowest level of EACH dimension in my cube!
This write back feature doesn't support writing to a high level. (like
Proclarity do)

Had the same problem....but isn't it very difficult to get to the lowest
level in a front end...?

Simply create a cube with only dimensions required for the write back.
Generally a user don't create any budget by day, by client etc...
Also, using the page to filter some dimensions and putting only 1 dimension
by row and column (at the lowest level) is not so time consuming for the
clinet and the server.

For example a configuration like this :
* 12 months in column
* Product types in rows (50 types)
* Clients in filter (1000clients)
works fine.
