I have learned how to transfer data from my OLTP database into a different database, learned and have ensured that the data has been 'scrubbed', have created tables which I plan to use for my dimensions and fact(s) and and eventually successfully created cubes using Analysis services.... I still need a LOT MORE learning to do since this is just the start for me but I want to ask a basic question to the experts/experienced people: Is the above and axample of creating a data mart or data warehousing??? I think (and this is where I need your guidance most) is that I have created a data mart using data warehousing concept... Please guide me by a reply to this post. And yes, I already plan to buy the book by Ralph Kimbel and also visit a few sites everynow and then but am requesting a reply in this post. BTW, please do feel free to recommend and god URL if you want to (besides answering my request). Thanks. P.S Sorry for this cross-post. Probably one of the VERY FEW that i have/will cross post. |

My $0.02/£0.01 A datamart is a department/process level rollup of your data A datawarehouse however is a business wide rollup of your data I simply see one being technically bigger than the other not necessarily different. Both IMHO are meant to solve tactical, strategic or operational questions. -- |
