Default Multidimensional connection / Open connection failed - 10-07-2005 , 10:59 AM

While trying to make a connection from Excel to Analysis Services trough
pivot table appears the next dialog box error:

Open connectio failed (dialog box title)
The operation request failed due to security problems - the user could not
be authenticated

this messages appears after push connect button in the multidimensional
connection window, even if I left blank the user and password boxes.

I would apreciate any help.

Sounds like an AD issue. AS uses AD for it's authentication. The user
name and password in the connection box only apply when you have set up
HTTP access to AS.

Well, I'm trying to connect using 2 user names, the firs one is the
administrator and the other one a user-created in Active Directory. Both of
them are part of OLAP Administrators group and have permisions on the DB in
SQL.

I'm not saying that your users are not valid users, just that the issue
may be network related. The AS server would have to contact an AD Domain
Controller in order to authenticate.

One way to test if this could be an issue would be to set up a local
user on the AS server and assign this user to a security role in AS.
Then set up a local user on the client machine with the identical
username and password. Now when you logon to the client machine as this
new user, it will use pass through authentication and map to the local
user on the server, effectively bypassing the need to contact any Domain
Controllers.

If the above approach does work then you have an AD issue and will need
someone with more AD experience than I have
