think you need to install pts on the clients ?

and you need to install the version of pts according to the version of your
sql server. That would propably meaning pts from sp3 - you have a light and
a full.

Ptsfull is all mdac and ptslight is only olap (i think..)

So get a hold of sql server sp3 installation disk and look in folder msolap
for ptsfull.exe.

Thanks Michael!

But I forgot to mention, i did install ptslite.

When that didn't work, i removed it then install ptsfull to ensure MDAC is
installed.

But this didn't work as well.

HELP!

Hi,

I had the same problem. Install all the latest service packs and that
seemed to fix the problem. I tried exactly what you had and could not
get it to work. There's another post in this group (look for .udl)
where somebody shows you how to test to see if your Provider is,
generally, working. You create an empty text file with .udl as the
extension, save it, and then double click on it and see if you can
select your provider from the first tab without it throwing an error.

misheL, I was in the same situation, and the advice from Michael works for me.

When you install SP3 for SQL, the packages creates a dir "C:\SQL2KSP4" on
your server, inside this dir, on C:\SQL2KSP4\msolap\install\PTS you will find
the 2 pts files: ptslite and ptsfull. Try installing this PTSFULL.EXE.

By the way, after did this finally appears the dialog box for the
connection, but when I try to connect the next error message appears to me:

Open Connection Error (Dialog box title)
Operation request error due security problems - the user can not be
authenticated

Any idea about this?
