Default MSSQLServerOLAPServices - 02-01-2006 , 05:03 AM

I am using SQL server 2000 on service pack 3a and am having difficulty
starting the MSSQLServerOLAPServices service.

Analysis Services has been working correctly on the server for serveral
years. However yesterday Analysis hung. After a server reboot the server was
unable to apply settings and so hung whilst logging on.

Starting in safe mode and disabling services we isolated the
MSSQLServerOLAPServices as the problem service. I have tried reinstalling
Analysis Services but I am unable to restart the service.

Has anyone come accross this before or do you have any suggestions ?

Cheers

Si

It could be a corrupt dimension file. AS2k loads all the dimensions into
memory at startup, so a problem in one of the dimension files could
cause the service to hang on startup.

The first thing I would do is to rename the data folder and try and
start the service. If this works, it probably means there is an issue
with one of the dimension files.

If that is the case you probably only have 2 options.

1. Restore the database from a backup
2. Re-process the entire database

Darren

Thanks for that. Seems to be working fine once I`ve lost the data.

Will try recreating from a backup.
