Default MSSQLServerOLAPService does not start - 07-25-2006 , 08:16 AM

Hi,

I must admit that I don't know Analysis Services at all. However, I was
tasked to update one of our SQL2K server running OLAP to SP3a.

After having installed SP3a for OLAP, I noticed that the
MSSQLServerOLAPService was sort of in a hung state (starting). It eventually
failed with no reported errors. I tried to start this service again but fails
as it cannot start it in a timely fashion.

I've also tried using the local system account instead of the domain account
but in vain. And I can't even bring up SQL Service Manager. It flashes and
then disappears (even from the sys tray). Please help.

TIA.

Regards,

If you have problems starting analysis services, I would suspect that one of
your database is corrupted.
I usually fix problem this way:
Go to analysis services data folder. For each database there you will find
a folder and another file (.odb in SSAS 2000). Move folder and file somwere
else. Do this for each database. After that try to start analysis services.
Usually this helps
