Default msolap web access and the file sharing service - 12-10-2004 , 02:52 AM

Hello,

As far as I know, it is necessary to have the file sharing service
activated in the Analysis Machine box in order to be able to use the
data pump technique. I would like to know if there is any possibility
of turning this service off but still be able to use the named pipes
to transport the cube information.

We have a client which wants to use the msolap / web access, using
separate machines for IIS and AS, but they don't like the idea of
enabling file sharing in the Analysis Services machine.

Has anyone got any ideas or previous experience?

Thank you very much and best regards,
---
Marcelo

When msolap.asp and Analysis Services are on different machines, pump uses
named pipes to communicate to the server, so whatever Windows needs in order
for named pipes to function needs to be enabled. You can ask Windows
newsgroup whether it is possible to get named pipes to work without file
sharing service.
