Default Move cubes to another server? - 10-20-2004 , 10:01 AM

Hi,
I want to process cubes on the staging server and then
move them to production server. Is that doable?
I planned to:
1. copy database from staging to production server
(Analysis manager).
2. process cubes on staging server
3. copy them to production server

If this is possible scenario, how can I move cubes from
production to the staging server? Is previous three steps
all I have to do to achieve my goal?
Thanks,
OJ

Backup up your cube on one server. Restore it on the other, process the
cube, back it up and move it to the second server.

Check out "The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Operations
Guide", available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../anservog.mspx

The Release Management section discusses alternatives for moving AS
databases between servers.

The only problem is that I don't know how to move cubes
from one to another server (I'm newborn in analysis
service). Is there a way to do it in analysis manager?
And why move cube by cube? Can't I just copy/past the
whole database which contains cubes I need to move?
Thanks,
OJ

Hi,
Is following procedure correct (to avoid processing cubes
on production server):
1. Processing cubes on the staging server
2. Stopping analysis service on production server
3. Copying content of data folder and repository database
from staging to production server
4. Starting analysis service on production server
5. Changing data source on production server to point to
production database...

Thanks,
OJ

in Analysis Manager archive your database. Copy the cab to the new server
and restore it there.
