Default Misleading dimension - 04-19-2005 , 11:49 PM

Dear all,

I have put "Branch" and "Item" dimensions in Filter Axis of Excel Pivot
Table. When I select a branch, say Branch A, items not belong to Branch A are
still found in "Item" dimension. I feel that the it is misleading to our
users. Is there any way to solve this problem? Thanks!

Regards,
Polly

Dear Polly,

when klicking Filter-Button of any Dimension, always all Elements are
available to filter, because the dimensions are not directly linked to
another. The fact, that some Branch-Item combinations are not possible is
only clear in combination with the fact-table (some combinations just do not
exist in fact table)

One possibility to solve this could be to combine the dimensions Branch and
Item to one single Dimension eg. called Item, having Items as Lower level
aggregated up in Branch level if they are directly linkable and it makes
sense.
Doing so the user gets a tree-view of possible combinations.

The view of available and restrictable Dimensionmembers always displays all
members (depending on user security) no matter which combination displays no
data.

Best regards
