Default Migrating cubes to new server - 02-11-2004 , 09:46 AM

We are switching the server that I have all my cubes on to a new one. We plan to move everything over to the new one and then rename the new one the same as the old one. I have moved cubes before by copying and pasting, but I could never get them to work because it would always tell me I had duplicate data source names

Will I just be able to copy and paste the cubes to the new server and have it work because we are naming it the same? Does anybody have any suggestions on how to move these cubes so I don't have to redefine them all? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Andrea, archive/restore is the recommended way to copy a database from
server to server.

Great, thanks. I archived and restored with no problem, but when I try to edit the cube it tells me that "Data source name not found and no default driver specified". Without knowing my system, I'm not sure if you can help, but is there another step I need to take? Thanks.

You should update your Data Source for that MD database, as long as the
relational DB has the same structure.

Most probable your Data Source is still pointing to the old server, which
may be offline or it was defined with LocalHost and you do not have the SQL
database in that server.

Hope it helps,

Michael
