where are you read this?

In analysis services olap cubes we talk about measures and calculated
measures.
But regarding the tool used, a metric is close to a KPI (Key performance
indicator)

Jerome,

Well, I had someone ask me "what's the difference between
metrics and measures" in a job interview and I got caught
with pants down. I asked the guy the same
question "where did you read this"?

Well...

For example, in BusinessObjects you have "Measures" in a Universe
(equivalent to an OLAP cube), but you'll found "metrics" in application
fundation (on dashboard application in front of BO) These metrics add some
"intelligence" to standard measures.

Cognos talk Metrics in its scorecard application, but talk about measure in
the others!

From a technical point of view, its the same thing.

I've found this definition:
Metrics
pre-defined measures of performance calculable by comparison of system
output with human-generated answer keys
and this one:
Metrics
Methods that a company has come up with to measure something, like
effectiveness of a training program, IT productivity, customer satisfaction.
(Concept)

And other definitions:

KPI
Key Performance Indicator; a measure designed to track a critical
performance variable over time.
