I'm quite new to OLAP, so pls excuse me for silly question. Is there place in AS where I can type in and issue my mdx queries, sort of QA in SQL Server? I couldn't find at first glance. -- Thank you, Alex |

Try the MDX Sample Application that comes with Analysis Services. It is not as extensive as QA, but it is all you've got without buying a third party tool. There is supposed to be an MDX query development app built in to SQL Server 2005. Thank you Mark for response, Still have couple of questions. I can run MDX queries of any type in MDX Sample Application, I mean without any limitations? And could you please name some of those third party tools offhand? "Mark Job" <markDOTjobATimmedientDOTcom> wrote in message news:u8WB0qqbEHA.1732 (AT) TK2MSFTNGP09 (DOT) phx.gbl... Not sure what you mean by "limitations". If it is valid MDX, you can run it in the Sample App. What will be returned might be limited, e.g. what attributes. The XML for Analysis 1.1 application also has a sample app. It is much more limited in its handling of the text that makes up query files, but through XML it exposes a lot more of MDX functionality (when you view Results as XML). ProClarity is the main tool that comes to mind. If you pick up some of the major MDX textbooks, they usually have a trial version of one of these tools included. Spofford's "MDX Solutions" (by far the best book on MDX) has MDX Builder 2.0, but I don't know if the vendor of this product (BI Sense) still exists. Fast Track to MDX by Whitehorn et al has a trial of ProClarity. "Alex" <alex_removethis_ (AT) healthmetrx (DOT) com> wrote in message news:10fr8v1qfamuj51 (AT) corp (DOT) supernews.com...
