Default Maximum Memory Usage for Analysis Services... - 11-04-2003 , 01:15 PM

Hi AS Gurus...:-)

I am contacting you regarding a question we have on our
new OLAP servers configuration we are currently working
on.

We know that, on Windows 2000 Advanced Server (which is
our server OS), the default maximum memory that Analysis
Services can use is 2 GB, but it is possible to configure
it to use about 3 GB of RAM by enabling Application
Memory Tuning.

The thing is we have currently a server with 8 GB of RAM
available, and we are wondering if it will not be useless
to dedicate it to AS (note that no other application will
be running on the server, except Analysis Services).

More precisely, we need to know if there is any way to
make Analysis Services (AS) use more than 3 GB of RAM
(let's say up to 8 GB of RAM), and if YES, how we should
proceed ?

I thank you a lot for your response

Best Regards,

Abdou

As far as I know, this is not an AS thing, but the fact that a 32 bit
operating system such as Windows can't allocate more memory to a single
process. If you need AS to have more memory, you should consider using a
64 bit server with the 64 bit versions of windows and AS.

Cheers,

Coen
