Default Live information screen - 07-20-2004 , 08:07 PM

Hi all

I´ve been asked to create information screen showing results from an olap
cube. The information will appear on a big plasma screen and will update
every hour. Does any of you know if there is a software that I can use for
this show that is able to show live information from the cubes.

best regards,

Hi

My understanding is that you simply need client software to display the data
in your MS AS cubes; the fact that you're connecting to a plasma screen
doesn't change things, or I am wrong?

In that case, any standard client tool will do, depending on what kind of
layout you want: grid-like reports, charts, geographical maps, graphical
dashboards...

Regarding the update frequency of your cube, a standard processing occuring
every hour or so will be fine, prvided that the incremental processing
itself takes only a few moments; otherwise, you will have to look into
solutions like real-time OLAP. All these features are supported natively by
MS AS (you will need Enterprise edition for the latest, though).

Can you elaborate somewhat on your specific needs ?

Regards

Olivier.

Hi

Yes you are right.

What I need is a good client tool that will help me to present this
information in clear and understandable manner. I like what you wrote
"grid-like reports, charts, geographical maps, graphical dashboards..." Can
suggest any clients that can help me with displaying my information.

Hi Benedikt,
Your requirement sounds like a classic Dashboard requirement. There are a few tools out ther capable of providing very nice looking dashboards, the best I've seen is provided by Panorama Software (http://www.panoramasoftware.com).

Refreshing on an hourly basis isn't a problem. As Olivier says the only caveat is ensuring that your cube processing isn't taking an hour as well.
