Default Lazy man's question - 11-09-2005 , 08:44 AM

Forgive me for not digging into all sort of docs to find an answer. Is
there any doc/article that explains briefly the relationships between/among
various tools that comes with sql server 2005 (enterprise edition)? For
instance, at a glance, I don't seem to be able to create/add a database to
Analysis Service while I can do so with Development Studio.

Along the same line, architecture doc?

TIA.

Well you can add/create/restore/synchronize from SS Management Studio, but
you must develop the database using BI Development Studio.

No shortcuts here Joe, just digg into the Books On Line Tutorials to get the
(deep) changes

Pablo,

Thanks for the follow-up. Yep, have to read lots of docs. Now, it seems
that the new GUI for Analysis Service is DRASTICALLY different from the one
that comes sql server 2000. The previous one seems much cleaner and still
powerful.

btw, I haven't found a doc that describe the process flow of Build (build |
deploy), Database (Process), Mining Model (Process). A simple mind might
think that once a datasource is identified and connected, cube built, mining
model constructed and tested, then, deploy the freaking model, hence, it
leaves 2 clean buttons at the GUI level, that is, Test/Process the Model and
Deploy it. Now, let me step back for a sec, when going for deploy(ment), BI
dev studio or rather visual studio asked for impersonation account password,
what heck is this, was it realy meant 'sa' password, I thought NT
authentification should take care of it.

Also, under the Options/ Data Connections, the default might be wrong for
many (SQLEXPRESS).

TIA.

Joe, i agree that Analysis Manager is cleaner. But, imho, it's primitive and
poor when compared with BIDS.
Please read "Requirements and Considerations for Analysis Services
Deployment" in the BOL.
And about having to choose de auth mode, I think it's good to have the
choice and configure it. It supports more scenarios than before.
