Default Issue with Excel connectivity - 02-28-2006 , 10:00 PM

Good day all,

I have an issue in a BI environment that we are currently developing
using SQL Server 2005 and all the associated goodies. I am deploying
the SQL server client components, including MSXML6, OLEDB v9.0 for
analysis services, ADOMD.Net onto Windows XP machines for client
review. I can deploy the utilities + MDAC 2.8 onto my target machines
running XP SP1 and all is well. I can connect form Excel 2002 and
create a new OLEDB connection and see all of the published cubes in my
analysis services environment.Bob's your uncle.

When I deploy the same suite onto XP SP2 (minus MDAC as SP2 already
install 2.8SP1) I cannot make a connection to the AS. I am using Excel
2002 (XP) and Excel 2003. Once the datasource name is entered (using
integrated security of course) the Excel session hangs until I kill it.

I have done the usual reboot, uninstall / re-install, verified that the
dlls are current, monitored the filesystem for missing dlls, config
files, etc.

I am at a loss :-(

Anyone else out there have this issue? Any resolution?

Thanks in advance

Is the Windows XP firewall enabled? It may be blocking the port AS is
trying to use (2383 by default, but there will be an additional variable
port if you have a named instance)

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the reply but no the firewall is turned off. I have just
installed the MS Cube Analysis Excel add-in in the hope that it might
resolve the issue but it hangs at the same place too. As soon as I try
to retrieve a cube list -- HUNG :-(

I will post a solution when I arrive at one.
