Default Installation Issue: AS Crashes MMC for all users except installer - 09-05-2005 , 07:35 PM

I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem and resolved it?

Basically, if you try to run Analysis Services 2000 MMC console from any
user account other than the one that installed Analysis Services, it crashes
on launch.

Notes:

- For the purpose of troubleshooting, all users tested were temporarily
given full control to all AS and SQL2000 folders. It is therefore not a file
permission issue.

- SysInternals tools RegMon and FileMon confirm it is not a registry key or
file reading error. Also no user-profile based registry keys have been
discovered at this time that would need migrating between accounts.

- Resaving the console as the latest version of MMC does not fix the problem.

- Creating a new console does not fix the problem. As soon as a user
selects the MMC console plugin for Analysis Services 2000, MMC crashes.

- All users tested have been made members of OLAP Administrators for
testing. This does not resolve the problem.

- If you install Analysis Services in a user account with admin rights, it
works for that account. However, the console then crashes for the built-in
'Administrator' account, so it is not some special property of the built-in
'Administrator' account that other admins somehow don't have.

- If you install Analysis Services in all accounts that need to use it, it
works for none of them. It does not crash, but you can't connect to the OLAP
server and see anything either.

As you can see, I have covered the obvious ground. So I am stuck with this
problem that only one specific person can log into a machine and use Analysis
Services.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Software: SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition A with Analysis Services and
English Query; Windows XP Professional SP2 with all WindowsUpdates. Bare
operating system, except some basic tools such as WinZip, Sysinternals,
Resource Kit, etc (that is, no other productivity apps have been installed
yet).
