Default HTTP/HTTPS Connectivity to Analysis Services - 05-10-2005 , 04:50 AM

Hi,

I understand that HTTP/HTTPS connectivity to an Analysis Server is
restricted to SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition licence only

Are there any known alternatives for providing HTTP connectivity via the
Standard Edition?

Also, is it known whether the exclusion of this functionality is planned for
the SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition

Kind Regards

Hi Simon,

Only the Enterprise edition will give you the HTTP connection, the only
alternatives require you to use SSPI=anonymous on the connection string or
to use passthrough security, where you are adding all the users as local
windows accounts on the AS server. Not much fun for administration.

In 2005, I'm not sure if its in the Standard edition or not, but the HTTP
connection is still there.

Hi David,

Thanks for confirming my fears! I can't edit the connection string as it is
a third party client tool. Could you clarify the "passthrough security"
please? Is this refering to HTTP connectivity still, or basic Windows
authentication? Are you saying it Is possible for a standalone remote
desktop login to be authenticated against the server host if it is not on the
same domain?

Many Thanks
Simon
