Default HTTP Connectivity - David Wickert - 10-24-2005 , 02:05 PM

Hello Mr. Wickert (or anyone holding the answer),

My name is Miguel and I found a posting of yours referencing a site
witch I cannot access.

I would like to know how it will work to access cubes on AS 2005 by
using only ports 80 or 443. (http connectivity) Will enterprise edition
be needed?

The site is listed below:

http://www.sqlserveranalysisservices...essToYukon.htm

Also I'd like to know if it is possible (any way) to connect (OWC)to
AS 2000 standard using only those two ports.

Sorry to disturb you but I've looking around quite a bit and could
not find any information that would clarify this matters to me. And
since you've already anwered it once, I'll bet you can point me into
the right direction.

Thanks very much,

Miguel de Oliveira Salles

HTTP connections are only supported by the enterprise edition of AS2k.

If you do upgrade there is a KB article on how to set it up here

How about using Proclarity and AS2k? Would it work under ports 80 and
443 only?

Thanks

Just within the last month we have made the decision to move http
connectivity from EE to Std Edition for AS2K5

You would have to speak with them, but I believe that they do support it.
Any front-end tool can interface with http access. All they need to provide
is to set the server name as http://server/<vd> where <vd> is the IIS
virtual directory where http access is configured for. Having a server name
start with the string "http://" or "https://" is the indicator that http
access is being asked for rather than a normal tcp/ip connection if the
server name was just "server". That is all there is to it.

BTW, I asked around the group and apparently there will be a difference
between EE and Std Edition with http access. In Std Edition, we will allow
http access, but we disable binary and compressed XML transfers. Thus it
will be slower than EE when moving large cellsets. It will perform more like
the XMLA SDK does today.

Hi there,

Thanks a for your help.

Now, I'm trying to configure AS http in a machine with Sharepoint. The
usual steps dont work for mey default web page is not in wwwroot. (I
think)

Is tehre a tutorial for this? I am trying it on 2 different
environments now and looks like I'm missing something.

Well I'll be waiting for AS2K5 with a bit more enthusiasm now. I'll be
at Brazilian lauch on the 29th.

Thaks a Lot,

Miguel Salles

Sharepoint tends to pretty much take over IIS on a machine. There is a
screen that lets you specify excluded paths, that sharepoint will not
try and handle. You will need to setup the virtual folder that contains
msolap.asp as one of these excluded paths.

If you have trouble finding this screen you might be better off asking
in one of the sharepoint groups. I know its there but I don't have
access to a sharepoint server at present.
