How do I limit the amount of data in my Cubes by date?

Folks --

Any assistance is appreciated. I want to limit the amount of data in
some of my cubes. I want to limit the data by date, that is, I may
want Cubes that cover the last seven days, the last 3 months, rather
than my big versions of these Cubes that cover 3, 5, 7 years.

I want to do this because of build times.

The only two ways I know to do this are:

1. I can create a date filter and apply in both in a date partition
in the Cube and also the date source table item in Properties in Edit
Cube

that has worked

or

2. I can create a date filtered view in SQL Server and then try to
build the Cube off the view

this has not worked

Any ideas?
