Default How to create an offline cube? - 02-09-2004 , 05:35 AM

Hi,

Can someone tell me how to create an offline cube?

The Excel help file says:

--------------------------------
2. On the PivotTable toolbar, click PivotTable, and then click Offline OLAP.
----------------------------------

But I looked up and down and just couldn't find the "Offline OLAP" menu item
(I did see the PivotTable toolbar and the PivotTable button).

I am using Office 2003.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards,
Yee

Hi Yee,

Did you also add data to the pivottable?

Bascially you need to create the Datasource trough Data, pivottable,
add measure/dimensions to pivottable
make sure the you have select one of the pivottable fiels
go to pivotable and select create offline cube, is on top

HTH,
Bas

Yee-
Do a search in Excel Help for Offline Cubes.. You will find several
help messages about it.

Basically you are connecting directly to the .cub file and not the
Analysis Services.

Here is the basic for it
"An offline cube file is a file with .cub extension that stores a
portion of the source data (source data: The list or table that's used
to create a PivotTable or PivotChart report. Source data can be taken
from an Excel list or range, an external database or cube, or another
PivotTable report.) from an OLAP (OLAP: A database technology that has
been optimized for querying and reporting, instead of processing
transactions. OLAP data is organized hierarchically and stored in
cubes instead of tables.) server database. This allows you to continue
to make changes to PivotTable (PivotTable report: An interactive,
crosstabulated Excel report that summarizes and analyzes data, such as
database records, from various sources, including ones that are
external to Excel.) and PivotChart reports (PivotChart report: A chart
that provides interactive analysis of data, like a PivotTable report.
You can change views of data, see different levels of detail, or
reorganize the chart layout by dragging fields and by showing or
hiding items in fields.) when the server is unavailable or you're
disconnected from the network."

Yee
