Default How can I change a Cubes Database ? - 06-16-2004 , 01:56 AM

Hi !

I've created a Cube on a local Instance of a DB.
How can I install this Cube on another Server,
where another (the original) Instance of the same DB exists.
(Same Tables, same fields ...)

Is that possible ? I think it should, because Re-Programming
an existing Cube for each Server isn't really funny. ;-)

Hope to get some good ideas.
Best Regards,
Smuddi

Hi Smuddi,
you can backup and restore the entire db and then delete the cubes you don't
need or
you can use "Metadata Scripter" that you can find in SQL Server Resource
Kit.

Hi Francesco !

So i can make a backup of my OLAP-DB in Analysis Manager,
and when I restore that one on another machine with it's own sql- and
analysis-server, i can use my cube as on my own pc ?
But i have to change the settings for the data source then, right ?

Did i understand that correctly,
should it work this way ?

thanks a lot,
Smuddi

Correct, you only have to change the settings for the data source because,
as you said in the first message, the db is the same: same tables, same
fields.... (and, you have to chek security settings (roles) on cubes,
dimensions, ....)

Yes it should
(Please, give me a feedback if it work or not.)

Hi,

1) connect to both servers with your analysis manager.
2) right click current database -> copy
3) right click new server -> paste
4) update your database-connection properties to the new source
5) life can be easy

Thomas
