Default How to access a cube over HTTP - 05-20-2004 , 08:23 AM

I copied the msolap.asp into the inetpub\wwwroot and set the
permissions as adviced and now when I say http://localhost/msolap
nothing appears.

Please advise what else is to be configured to enable http access to
the cubes.

Thanks
SImon

Hi Simon:

Msolap.asp doesn't display a view of the OLAP cubes, it is just a data
pump, a broker if you will. You'll still need a client application
like Excel that can display the information. You could use the MDX
sample application to view the data over HTTP by pointing to an URL
(http://localhost) instead of a machine name.

Hi Scott

Thanks for the direction.
Can you please give me a simple procedure how I can connect to
MSOLAP.ASP from Excel to access say the sales cube in foodmart cube
with MDX.

Thanks
Simon

A quick Google search reveals Dr. GUI has written step by step
instructions:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ui07022002.asp

Scroll down past the Ann Landers prose and you'll find it.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem and I've followed the article
below and I get an error:
The query could not be processed: operation timed out

I'm using an office pivotTable with connection string:
Provider=MSOLAP.2;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist
Security Info=True;Data
Source=http://4.xx.xxx.154;Initial Catalog=Foodmart
2000;Client Cache Size=25;Auto Synch Period=10000

What are some of the possible reasons for the timeout?
