Here's what I get:

On the same client, I can connect to an instance of AS 2005 on the
server. I can also connect to the AS 2000 instance via the AS 2000
Analysis Manager tool.

However, I'd like to be able to connect to the AS 2000 instance via SQL
Server 2005 Management Studio.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is not supported. You cannot manage or query AS 2000 servers using
SSMS -- you must continue to use Analysis Manager for management of AS 2000
servers.
