Default gaining access to a stand alone server from client in a domain - 08-23-2006 , 07:46 AM

Hello all,

Server : stand alone server with Analysis Services 2005 SP1 +
cumulative hotfixes (August 2006). The serveur uses named instances.
Client : member of a domain, windows XP SP2 workstation with proclarity
desktop professional 6.2.206.501.

I am new on this technology : I tried to design an OLAP cube on a stand
alone server. The cube is ok and I can send requests with proclarity
client installed on the server.

But (!), this server is a stand alone server, it is not part of a
domain. On the other hand, end users of the cube works on workstations
members of a domain.

Quote:
From a workstation, I just tried to connect to the instance on the OLAP
server.
2 use cases :
- if I log onto the domain, and I try to connect, the error message I
get saying that the browser service is not available.
- if I log onto the workstation without any authentication on the
domain, using an account existing on the OLAP server, no problem : it
works, access is granted.

Could someone explain me :
1°) Why ?
2°) How could I by-pass this problem ? (not considering the data pump
as a solution --> lack of performance, one more link to join OLAP
service, less maintenable, security perimeters need some specific
development (not sure), ...)

Regards,

Nicolas L.
