Default Front-Ends - 05-04-2005 , 12:05 AM

Just wondering what front-ends people are using and why... We're looking
for something *like* the pivot tables (we'd LOVE to stay in excel), but the
users have complained about things like the charts completely reformatting
when changes are made to the data. Does anyone know of a pivot table on
steroids? Also, what other GUIs are you using?

Thanks-
Malcolm

We are using arcplan /dynasight as frontend (no pivot table) since some
years and we are quite happy. One of the big plus for us is that this
frontend allow us to write back into the cubes (great for devel. planning
app) ... and allows the developer to customise the document how he wnts
(easy to implement corporate designs) and you don't need a team of DHW and
programming specialists to develop documents.
You can get more info's at www.arcplan.com

We currently use Proclarity. It's nothing spectacular, however there are
really no better options.

Jesse,
Have you looked at the full function excel add-ins. The main ones in
the market are Intelligentapps, MIS and XLCubed.

For people who want to be excel centric they offer a lot of
functionality. I believe that each of these tools also now have web
deployment technology where you can publish the analyses developed in
excel direct to the Web.

In the last few OLAP surveys as a group of products they did well.

In the market we are finding that more and more people are looking and
more importantly purchasing these products as excel remains a primary
tool of choice in terms of ease of use and most importantly user
acceptance.

Pretty much all of the products allow a download for people to try them
out with there cubes and there are numerous other ones than the 3 I
mentioned which are outlined on John Keeleys website and also on
Mosha's site.

Its interesting to see that both Essbase and Applix TM1 which have been
around for much longer than Analysis Services most popular methods of
front end has been there own excel add-ins so its by no means a new
thing.

I would reccomend trying them but I guess I would

Thanks
